Update: The Blammo Kill Markers have been rebranded as GameFace Verdict Marker BBs
We will post a news article shortly on how this will affect there release and distribution.
I want to preface this article: I know this item will not be for everyone, but I surely think the boys at Grudge Tactical have something interesting going on here.
With that out of the way... A little back story: While at the Shot Show in Orlando, we were introduced to an interesting little product. Among a myriad of other "new" products that were mainly revisions and upgrades on older concepts, this one seemed rather unique. Having almost no detailed information at the time, we left the news on the back burner.
For the past two weeks, all we have known about Grudge Tactical's Marking BBs is that they are coated in a fine dry powdered lubricant that transfers on impact. We had no way to get them on our plane via carry on. I had a pack of 100 clearly labeled G&G sample BBs confiscated at the gate... I can only imagine how much worse things would be if the orbs were coated in an "unknown powder", but that's another story.
This lack of information is coming to an end, and some pretty solid (and rather interesting) details have emerged. I get the feeling this technology could be revolutionary to the sport of airsoft, but it could potentially flop if marketed incorrectly. There will be many debates, and some very extreme reactions once these are released.
The first thing that comes to my mind is (regardless of whether or not I will personally use these marking BBs after fleeing from paintball) that they will make airsoft more accessible to the casual player. The most common question we get asked about airsoft when talking to paintball players is "How do you know when you hit someone?"
Most players say they know when they hit their target. If they did, its pretty likely the target knows he was shot. That said, it's up to the honor of each player to call themselves out. This system works well for small communities, such as the one we generally play with (New Jersey Airsoft Association). But w/ an the expansion of the industry this model will be challenged. Just in our small environment we see challenges as our promoters work to increase the pull of local games and bring in new players don't understand or don't want to understand the honor rules. This is a real challenge to the development of the airsoft industry and previous attempts a marker BB technologies have not been up to the challenge.

Technologically speaking, it looks like a lot of thought has gone into what seems like a simple color coated BB. Reading through the specifications, it looks like the guys at Grudge have married some very impressive marking concepts with a high quality BB. As I keep explaining, if marking is not for you, cooler marking will likely still not be for you. I really started getting interested when I watched the videos with the little dusty yet highly visible dots that are no where near as messy as the slop of a paintball. As an added bonus, they (according to tech specs) should even work in 6.01 barrels w/ no jamming issues.
If your wondering how this dry lube power will come off your equipment, there are videos of the product "application" and "removal" at the bottom of this post. The cleaning procedure is a couple rubs with a damp rag. From the looks of it (and what I remember from handling them), wiping the markings off on a tree, a common practice in open paintball games, will not work. Unless, of course, you keep your damp rag handy... or you have some really sweaty hands.
What remains to be seen is how the powder will affect your weapons. It is recommended that you clean up your barrel, feeding nozzle, and mags after a day's play. According to tests by our friends at Spartan Imports, the residue is actually very easy to remove, and you won't have to go beyond standard equipment cleaning practices. I am sure all of you are already take such proper care of your equipment anyway... right? Any remaining residue should eventually work its way out, as it becomes oily when friction is applied.
We look forward to getting our hands on this product to do some testing of our own. We are especially interested in velocity tests when compared to standard BBs of the same weight.
